Tier 3 - First and Last Day
At midnight last night we (Berkshire, along with several other counties) were put into Tier 3. By 4 o’clock today Boris made the announcement that we were to be put into a new Tier 4 as of midnight tonight. It’s a Lockdown very similar to the one we had in November. There will be NO mixing of households, even over Christmas, and no travel allowed except in very necessary situations. Other areas of England still in Tiers 1, 2 and 3, will also have new restrictions over Christmas, able to meet with other households for only 1 day, not 5. The other 3 countries that make up the U.K. have similar restrictions.
All because of a new strain of Covid, far more easily and quickly transmitted.
My Christmas camping trip will have to be cancelled. I always knew this was a possibility. I have no complaints. Staying in my home, cosy and decorated for Christmas, is no hardship. There are plenty more who are suffering far more disappointment than I am.
In other news - it was a very exciting day in cross-country skiing today! The sprint races were held in Dresden and one of our very small team of British skiers, Andrew Young, won the silver. He had an amazing recovery after suffering a broken pole. If it hadn’t been for that he probably would have won the gold. It was very exciting to watch! He won a bronze medal just a week ago, so this is very promising for Great Britain!
