Waxcaps

The spaniel and I had a two hour walk on the South downs this morning in horrendous weather - lashing rain and wind ripping across the tops, a combination that proved too much for my waterproofs. I was surprised to find that there were still a few waxcaps around including this pair which I have yet to identify. I was so keen to photograph them quickly, without getting my camera soaked, that I forgot to smell them - one of the best ways of separating out different waxcap species
