Another past December concert…

5 years ago tonight, seeing Madonna at The Hydro. I’d quite fancied seeing her but wasn’t expecting too much. However I was extremely impressed – a visually and technically stunning show, and she’s a great performer. One abiding memory – she didn’t come on stage until 9.40pm; I think the Hydro’s usual curfew is 11.00pm, reckon they looked to stretch it to 11.30, but by the time she came back on stage for an encore around 11.40 the venue had cut the power to the stage and put the house lights up! She performed ‘Holiday’ on the runway projecting into the audience area as the maintenance staff were moving in to start their clean-up!

This page from my book: The Madonna programme is quite big, one of the largest that I have, hence it’s relative size to the others on this page. Not exactly to scale, but a reasonable representation of the differing sizes of the books. Emeli Sande has a fabulous voice and came across as such a sincere person. Not enough superlatives for Annie Lennox – if you remember my comment on a previous entry in this series about missing out on seeing Eurythmics back in the 80s, you can imagine how much I was looking forward to this; we weren’t disappointed! [in the interim, I had seen her perform one song at the Live 8 Edinburgh concert in 2005 and one song at the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony; separate pages for them may appear in a later entry in this series – you can see a snippet of the Olympics one in this photo]

One further December memory will follow…
