Sunset in Holland

Lake Michigan appeals to all of our senses, swimming beneath its swells, trekking its shores, hearing the screeching seagulls overhead or reaching down for a piece of sand polished sea glass on the shore. If you live in West Michigan your life evolves around this 1,638-mile lake. The west coastline has sand dunes, blueberry farms and saw grass.

In the winter, the first 50 to 250 yards freeze solid. At sunset ice chunks transform into jewels. Some years, not this one yet, it is so cold water expands to freeze, breaks through the surface ice and freezes into incredible waves. I was looking for one but never found it. I found a little ice chunk for a tripod and caught this sunset.
