writers festival

It's here again!
A weekend of food for thought with wonderful people to listen to (and cogitate upon their ideas) and on a perfect, cool, blue skied day, the grounds of the Uni of WA are a great venue.

This is Winthrop Hall where I listened to Jared Diamond and Tom Holland. The former surely a 21st century Renaissance Man( as described by TH) and the latter (new to me I must admit) a very entertaining, erudite and talented Brit. Their subject of discussion 'the insights into human nature that ancient and traditional societies can provide us'.
I also listened to Anne de Courcy ('The Fishing Fleet' the story of young women in the 19th century who travelled by sea to Raj India to seek husbands), Brian Armstrong (Aussie film maker for National Geographic) and finally, Anna Funder and Robin de Crespigny ( telling stories of great courage and moral strength, not as biography but embraced in fiction. )

Also food for the tum! Spectacular treat was a 'paleta', a Mexican ice cream. I munched through a salted caramel 'icy pole' which was SO delicious, and had to stay well away from grazing through the menu's other delights. All this while lazing on a red bean bag in the shade.
A GREAT way to spend a Saturday.

Arrived home (after many hours away) to find A had also 'grazed', discovering a bag of hot cross buns. Looking VERY guilty, but pleased!
