Night and day

I wanted to see Dan and Abi before I headed south to Salford, today, so I waited until they arrived home from school, although they seem more amused by my sentimentality than anything else.

Anyway, as a consequence, the sun was already very low in the sky when I finally departed and the sensible thing would, I guess, have been to simply head down the motorway: 70 miles in 75 minutes.

Or, for an extra twenty minutes and a similar mileage, I can go via Long Preston, Gisburn, Nelson, Blacko, and Barrowford: an altogether more pleasant drive (and - green points - less fuel burned!).

There is, admittedly, a bit of motorway driving towards the end, but that's OK. It was while I was waiting to get onto the motorway that I took this shot, a nice contrast of night and day.
