From Birthdays to Fungi

Thanks so much to you all for such lovely birthday wishes, and very kind words about my mom and me. I was so grateful that we were able to get a picture together.

Today I spent the afternoon converting a rather large space in the eaves off my office into a playroom for the grandchildren. When it's completely done I'll post a photo. It's already vastly improved with little chairs and a cozy pile of pillows to nestle into, some lovely lighting and of course a soft, furry rug and plenty of books and toys. It's accessed through what looks like a cupboard door, so my somewhat fragile and fussy knees balk at too much in and out. But I'm tickled and I know they'll be thrilled.

It was a lovely, sunny afternoon and I'm amazed at the plants that think it's spring! Crocus and daffodils are peeking out and the Camellia sasanqua started blooming yesterday. In its cool dark corner of the garden it typically doesn't bloom until February. That's ok, I'll take spring over winter any day. 

The fungi are still popping up everywhere. I've posted a similar bunch a couple of months ago, but here's a new patch of the same. Not sure what they are, but maybe Honey Fungus. Not necessarily a good sign for the rhododendrons they're clumped around, but they're old and ready to be replaced with something else anyway.
