Derelict - DS224
It has been a dreary, cold day - the calm before the storm. Soon, the snow will start and by tomorrow morning we are expected to get somewhere around 18 inches/46 cm on the ground. I was hoping that the snow would start early today - my plan was to plant myself out in the hide and do one of my very favorite things...photograph birds in the snow. But the start of the storm has been pushed back to after 4 at which point the light will be nearly gone.
With Plan 1 thwarted, I decided to jump in the car and take a quick drive to a nearby farm field where this abandoned old garage sits. I've photographed this before from the other side, but had wanted to get a front view which shows the missing door. And since there is a bit of snow lingering from earlier this week, I think it makes the old building look even more bleak and derelict. Just right for Marlieske's Derelict Sunday Challenge!
Although the snow hasn't yet started, the birds are all gathering. The feeders have been unusually busy today with higher numbers of siskins and sparrows than usual. I even had a couple of Starlings, one of whom decided that having a lovely long bath in 29 F temps was just the thing. Water was being flung everywhere and how the daft bird could take flight when it was done is a mystery.
Our first order of business tomorrow will be clearing part of the driveway so that SIL can start her new job. Afterwards, we will have the rest of the day to clear snow - and, in my case, grab some birds-in-snow shots! Hopefully we will have power in the house, fingers crossed. It is going to be extremely cold the rest of the week, so being without power would be very bad.
Thank you so very much for stopping by - and thank you for all your kind and lovely comments over the past few days.
Stay safe, people. Follow health guidelines. Be kind. And don't forget the chocolate!
