SILENCE IS GOLDEN
A lovely day today. The sun was shining, it was cold but really lovely. I just had to go out. I have missed going up to Ullswater and The Kirkstone Pass. Pooley Bridge is about an hour from home The Kirkstone Pass only about 45 minutes so it's very local.
G came with me, but Hubby - well he wanted to work on his garden!!!! Anyway we scooted up the M6 and ended up at Pooley Bridge. After parking (I refused to buy a parking ticket and just hoped for the best, simply because it is the only car park we've come across so far where there was no sanitiser by the side of the ticket machine so you had to either insert coins or cards and press buttons - no way) We walked over the new bridge - men still working on it but it is looking good and you can walk across it - which we did.
We then popped into Granny D's for lunch. They were very welcoming, had hand sanitisers under canopies and someone to take you to your table. I did feel somewhat nervous but they were very good and I watched them clean up after customers, even down to wiping the chairs and benches over so that was reassuring. Food was delicious if a bit too generous a portion.
We then just drove down the whole length of Ullswater, stopping off at various points to take loads of photos. It was fairly quiet, a bit of traffic every now and then but layby's we not over busy. Glencoyne Bay was sooo quiet, only us, and two other cars - oh and a flock of swans on the water. We saw a couple of hardy canoeists push off from one of the lay-bys and head out into the centre of the lake. We also saw a gentleman in a weird sort of boat at Glencoyne Bay. The Ullswater Steamers were working but we only saw one.
We then drove up the Kirkstone Pass and took this right at the top. It was STUNNING. So many light changes, it was like having our own personal light show. One minute it was dark, then fairly bright, then golden, as in the photo. Fabulous.
We then just came down via Troutbeck not The Struggle I'm a bit nervous about negotiating that road!!!
All in all a lovely hours out. I now feel a bit guilty, going into to different cafes in two days, just unheard of in these times. I'll only do outside ones from now until way into the New Year. I did hand wash and sanitise very very often, luckily we did find some in the car.
It was so lovely to be around Ullswater and Kirkstone again, haven't been up there since about February. Boy I have missed it.
We did notice that there were some tourists around coming up from Tier 3 locations, which is a bit worrying, good for businesses I suppose but it doesn't help to keep the figures down.
This is also my entry for Tiny Tuesday as there are many tiny things in this photo, tiny cars, tiny trees etc for instance and hope that is OK. Thanks to Carol_Dunham for hosting.
