Tobar na Sceabhrach

Far too much excitement today. Himself had to go into Skibbereen to get some plumbing stuff - the sink now being detached from the wall in the bathroom! I asked to come too on the premise that we could then go on to Lough Hyne and see the holy wells - I had heard (as you do) that offerings were now including covid-masks and though it my duty to document this! Jobs done we drove out to the lough and were fortunate in getting a bright windy half hour between torrential downpours. This is Skour Well, Tobar na Sceabhrach, Well of the Slope. It was looking beautiful today, the water gushing, cold and clear. As you can see it's much revered with an eclectic assortment of rags and offerings. No masks but there was a Christmas bauble. And I like the teeny dog. Feast day May Eve, water holds a cure for earache and you must make 10 rounds of the well, depositing a pebble each time. The water will not boil and will stay fresh forever.

We then had a wander around the lough itself - quite busy with  walkers and one woman who'd just had a swim! The water is always perishing in the lough which is unique - more here. It's very popular with kayakers too and in normal times (!) there is night time kayaking available to see the phosphorescence. I rather like this colourful jumble under a tree, more offerings around a blessed tree!
And thanks for the love for the bold girls yesterday.
