Memories of Blackpool
The explanation in front of Tate Britain says that Chila Kumari Singh Burman's 'Remembering A Brave New World' combines Hindu mythology and Bollywood imagery with memories of Blackpool illuminations. On a drizzly grey Vauxhall afternoon like today the colours and the lights were amazing and the ice cream van lifts the spirits in remembrance of sunnier days. Only the clang-clang of a passing tram to the Pleasure Beach was missing to complete the Illuminations effect. The lights were turned on to coincide with Diwali but they are there until 21 January and they really do brighten up dull winter days (and, I assume, nights).
