My wild day
I started out with a nature walk this morning. A lot of the grasses here got too cold over the past week (we had A few mornings that were in the low 30s) so many of them are brown like at the top left. In the top right we have a small snake sitting on top of one of the alligator nests. I’ve been watching those fairly closely since I we were lucky enough to see one occupied by a baby alligator a few weeks ago. This snake is the only live thing I’ve seen on a nest since then (although if you look at the brown leaf behind him, there is a fly there also). I had to include the blue gray gnatcatcher because catching a picture of them is something to write home about. This hawk in the middle (broadwinged hawk?) never turned around… Even after he flew away and landed on another tree, pretty much all he showed me was his back. The egret was on a mission I can almost see him just walking across the shoreline... his yellow feet were coming right up out of the water. The bottom middle is a loggerhead shrike. At the end of the day, we were treated to a beautiful sunset. Played mah-jongg and golf in the middle of it all. Pretty good day!
