The show must go on
Tonight was the awards ceremony for the Private Dentistry Awards 2020.
We should have been in London, at a fancy schmancy, black tie event, but due to covid, this was cancelled.
Although work held a mini ceremony/Christmas party, I couldn’t go as I’m still unable to get out of the house, so I got to watch it online, in my nightie, with gammon, egg and chips. What can I say? I’m a cheap date :-D
Our clinic was nominated for 7 awards; sadly we didn’t win any. I know it will sound like sour grapes, but all the same names kept winning, which seems unfair.
I’d already named the person that won the Best Hygienist category when I saw the shortlist; she is involved in everything. She frequently writes pieces for various dental journals, is an ambassador for dental products/brands and is affiliated with the hygienist & therapist associations. She clearly works hard and was pipped at the post last year, which is why I expected her to win this year.
Although it was disappointing not to win anything, we have to remember that we’ve only been established as a clinic since March this year and went into lockdown a couple weeks after opening. As a team, we’ve only been together since June for the most part; a couple of other girls joining us just a few months ago.
There were a record number of entries for this years awards, so we should be very proud to have been shortlisted as finalists.
I for one still think ‘finalist’ will look great on my CV :-)
