Abandonment?
The note posted on the side of their fodder bucket by the Environment Agency is titled Abandonment Notice - Horses: approximately 2. It goes on to say " This is to notify that these equines are being detained under section 7b and 7c of the Animals Act 1971as introduced by the Control of Horses Act 2015. Following FOUR days (96 hours) of detention, ownership of these equines will pass to the person detaining the horses, who may then retain ownership, or see that they are rehomed, sold or humanely destroyed." I think I recognise the shaggy little fellow with the coat. Check out my journal 18th May 2020 https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2709080989086256705
If I'm right then he belongs to the descendants of a gentleman who I have been reliably told was known as The Boxer. Apparently the boxer moved into a bungalow in what could loosely be termed a 'smallholding' tight under the shadow of the flour mill silos sometime in the 1960's. As I was told, he sired 17 children in this bungalow which is still owned by members of the family. I have also been told, although this may be malicious gossip, that they may have more respect for horses than the property of others and that their culture still believes in the grazing rights of the commoner.
The notice has a police incident number on it and the notice period ends in a couple of days. I feel I should let someone know but I'm too timid to go knocking on doors of strangers with bad news. I could pass the message on, I'm sure it would reach them quickly, but I'm probably being naive. If the owners are who I believe they are then I'm sure they know the situation, and I'm sure the police know who the owners are ;-)
