Church of the Holy Rood
I went on a research visit to Empshott church today for my local history project. As with my archaeological research, I always find it helps to visit places in person, if possible, to visualise things better.
Anyway, I really liked the Victorian glazed bell turret and I also found some great historic graffiti in the porch. The church is Bill Bryson’s favourite, partly he admits because it’s his local one. Being a huge fan of the author (I have every one of his books) I would have loved to have bumped into him today but, sadly, he wasn’t around.
