Farewell Party

This was it. The end of my duties with my school. Work finished for me Friday, but Saturday night was the farewell party. I met up with everyone, coworkers, coworkers from the past, and students at an izakaya in Kanayama. Lovely one with enough room for our decent sized group (around 45-50 people). It was a great time, welcoming my replacement and saying goodbye to me and my other coworker who's leaving.

There were some activities and speeches, but mostly just drinking and taking pictures and hanging out with good people. For the most part I sat by some of my longtime students, who I've taught the whole I was here. They're advanced level, so I could speak pretty natural English with them, which was nice. But they do like to drink, and we put away a lot of sake. This guy is one of the best. Taught him since I got here, loads of international experience but in the end pretty traditional Japanese. We have shared many drinks together. I don't know what joke he was waving off here, but most of the conversation was laughs.

I'm happy that while this was farewell from work, this wasn't a final goodbye to these people yet. Since I'm still working and living in Nagoya for one more year, I will be able to see all the students and coworkers again. Cannot wait to head to izakayas with them again.
