The roofer turned up!  Honestly didn't believe he would, it's been a farce.  Lots of patching needs to be done, mainly due to the crows and ravens damaging the surface where they work on the redwood (and other) cones they bring up to prise out the seeds, the textured surface and safety of the roof makes it a favored spot.  Also noticed one of the rain drains is clogged with needles - need to clear that out this weekend just in case we're lucky enough to ever see some rain again.  The palm will be getting a hair cut, too, but not by me, that's going to be the arborist.
