Peter was waiting for me outside Winchester Cathedral. We had agreed to meet for a cup of coffee in Borough Market. Five minutes later, we emerged from under the railway bridge, and there it was, glinting in the sun. It was not possible to be unimpressed.

Its 92 storeys contain a hotel, office space, luxury apartments, restaurants, retail space, a spa and a five storey public viewing gallery. It is the tallest building in the European Union, and for £24.95, you can travel in one of its 44 escalators to view London from the top.
