A general problem?
The apple pressings in (this part of) Germany are noticing that less and less apples are brought to them to make apple juice and apple wine of.
We have a lot of windfall orchards in our area and we see indeed a lot of apples still on or in the grass around the trees.
This abandoned orchard is an example of it. Some have really a lot of apples ripe to be harvested, others are too late and the apples start(ed) to rot.
The reason is unknown. Actually bringing the apples to the pressing is worthwhile, financially. It makes the apple juice and cider taste better (and the lack of poison healthier). It is also much better for the environment when the orchards are maintained properly.
So let's hope people will continue with this hobby.
