The Christmas Story
Today started at 1:45 a.m. when I was awoken by a Big Bang in the night. Or was it the flash that proceeded it? There must have been a flash.
We were still being bombarded with "snowthunder", but that bang was exceptionally loud.
Leaping out of bed (he exaggerated) I carefully checked over the house. It soon became apparent that there had been a power disruption of some kind.
Strangely, some lights were working normally and some were not. Some technology was working and some was not.
One heat pump was working and one was not. I checked over the whole house and also outside in the crypt.
To cut a boring story short, I reset all of the distribution board circuits with no success.
One phase of our 3 phase supply was not working. A quick call to Scottish Power Distribution to explain the problem. They noted that we were on the "special list for vulnerable people".
I explained the problem and the likely fault. An engineer would be at our door within the hour which he was. All masked up he entered via our "cleared route". He confirmed within a minute or so that one of the phase cables was dead, which pointed a problem outside.
He would go and fix it and come back to let us know. Within 40 minutes the return of power to everywhere confirmed he had found the fault and repaired it.
He came back to confirm that a fuse had blown in the local distribution station. He repaired it, and then headed off to another emergency repair.
Meanwhile I spent another hour making sure that everything was working normally which it was.
However, I could not get back to sleep and just started the day a little earlier.
Nothing was damaged, although I really never did wake up on Saturday.
Today’s Blipfoto is a study of a stain glass window proposal made by a Puerto Rican artist who Pat worked in the 70s. This hangs in the gallery that doubles as our kitchen.
Well, it is the start of Advent, and I have removed our Nativity scene from storage along with some garlands and the wreath which is mounted on out front door.
The extra was taken in the morning and shows a clearing sky over the stable building.
