The Survivor.

This larch tree escapes death every winter. Two avalanches come down to this part of the valley from the left, uprooting the trees, or at least breaking them, but our famous survivor stands on a little promontory, untouched. In the extra you can see the scouring effect of the avalanches that come off the Cheval Blanc, the mountain here, which is eroding from year to year. With the small amount of snowfall we have had in the last two days, there is no avalanche risk at the moment which is why I could walk safely in the snow today.
