Today was my first review after my surgery and the surgeon was really happy; which made me really happy!

I decided I was going to get glammed up, especially as this could be the only day out I get for the rest of the year. One of the nurses commented on me looking like a ‘blonde bombshell’. That’ll do for me haha.

First stop was orthotics, where I got my Velcro shoe. This is meant to help me mobilise a bit better and anything that helps to get me up and about a bit quicker is good with me.

Next was orthopaedics and straight to X-ray. Once I knew the surgeon was happy with everything, I could calm down and take a breath. Despite all the exterior scaffolding, I’ve only got a couple of small pins on the inside which I’m pleased about.

I got to meet with the specialist nurse who deals with frames; she was lovely and took loads of time to go through everything with me and Mr A; showing us both how to care for the pin sites. Salford’s protocol is to always have dressings on the sites, to prevent airborne contamination. I got a goody bag with all the things I need to look after my leg.

The surgeon is also really lovely, no rush and he actually listened to my point of view. He did however tease me about being a wuss doing my injections! I’m not ashamed to admit I’m struggling with them so he agreed to meet me halfway. He asked me to do another 3 weeks with the injections, then I can start on oral meds instead.
He wasn’t happy about my shoulder when I mentioned my ongoing issues and said that my range of motion is limiting my ability to weight bear on the left side.
He did a few little checks and tests then promptly sent me for an X-ray. Thankfully nothing was damaged during my fall, but he did recommend referring me to his ‘guys’ to maybe have physio and/or injections to improve things for me.

My blip is the CT scan taken after the external fixator was fitted at Blackburn; before my main surgery at Salford. You can see what a good job I made of it ;-)
