L has been demonstrating the new rapid COVID test at her hospital.  All of the front line staff are being given packs of the lateral flow tests so they can self administer the checks.

This is the business end of the test, after the user has collected nasal swabs and added the probe to the reagent.  They then add some drops to the gap in the bottom of the tester above.  You then wait 30 minutes and wait to see what lines appear.  This is a negative result, but if two bars appear it denotes a positive result.

These are being used for the roll out of mass testing in Tier 3 areas, which is part of the campaign to bring transmission levels back under control.  Of course with the great news about vaccines, we now have an exit strategy from the restrictions of the last few months.
