New Fence

The silver posts will be black, there will be a new fig tree and a persimmon tree and the remains of Janet and Paul's garden shed will be cleared, but things are definitely looking cleaner than they were . We saw Janet and Paul walking through their field on the other side of the fence, so we brought them over to look at it. I took this picture for them and it turns out it is the only picture I have taken today. It's not a great picture of the fence but I loved the sky.

There's a lot of work left to be done but it is a whole lot cleaner than when we first came back after the fire and I took this picture of more or less the same scene from the ash speckled bedroom door.

We sat outside in the sun and contemplated the view over the fields that prompted us to build more open fencing. We contemplated the very ugly prefab structure which looms over both of our properties. It seems to have been abandoned once again with plastic nailed to the outside flapping in the wind and the roof trusses and piles of warped lumber and discarded plastic left where they were dumped. We contemplated the trees and the possibility of survival for any of them...not very likely.

On our walk around one of the neighborhood circuits this morning we noticed quite a bit of clearing activity going on. Portapotties,  backhoes and bulldozers, plus big bins to carry the rubble away have appeared on several properties. Now that they have been cleared by the hazmat crews, those people who want to pay to clear the debris of their homes can begin whenever they find somebody licensed to do it. If they want to have it done by the state and county for whatever their insurance will pay, they will have to wait until their names come up on the list.

The second extra is our friends Dana and Layton's property. They were part of our 'restaurant at the end of the road' gatherings which I wrote about yesterday. I have heard that they will not be rebuilding but they must be hoping to sell the lot quickly.

We are in a bit of a lull right now, but it is going to get noisy and dirty once again when the clearing begins in earnest.
