Amaryllis Crisis !

I was sitting reading the Times, when I heard a curious sound. I then saw that the Amaryllis bulb had sunk to the bottom of its glass, displacing all the water over the (plastic clad) table.
Clearly, in growing the aerial parts, the bulb had shrunk. The first thought was to pot it up, but I would not use a pot, but put the soil in the glass , bringing the bulb to its initial position.It can still get water from the soil,so I will wait and see what happens !
