Swans in our River!

I was cycling home along our river (the Cooks) this morning and I noticed two swans!!! The other surprising coincidence was that there was already someone else taking shots and he knew all about them and was responsible for tracking them.

They are know as C1 and C2 (this one could be C2 - the female) and they are five months old, hence she is still quite brown. Originally there were five cygnets which hatched at Sydney Park, St. Peters, which is about 7 kilometers away but not on the river, these are the only ones that remain.

I am a member of a group who are working to improve the water quality in the river and the great thing is that apparently swans avoid polluted waters. Will we some day be also able to swim in the river?
