Smoke haze over Adelaide

Massive swathes of Victoria have been devastated by bushfires this season. South Australia has been extraordinarily lucky so far, but that doesn't mean we are not affected by the Victoria fires.

We have to go to the local post office each morning and today the smoke haze over the city seemed particularly bad. Now I know that it's smoke haze, not smog, that has drifted across from the fires that are presently burning in the Grampians, a smallish mountain range between here and Melbourne.

I believe that 3260 hectares have been burnt so far - yes, that's right, so far. It still hasn't been contained as far as we know.

Even smokier.

This morning spot fires have now jumped the containment line in the Grampians National Park, about eight to 10 kilometres north of the Victoria Valley.

This photo was taken at Windy Point from our favourite lookout over the CBD of Adelaide. You can even pick up the slight smell of burning in the air.
