The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Tuesday 1st December 2020)

At lunchtime I took the long way round into Calne via Berhill's Farm, Keevil's Weir and the path between the old canal and the river. I heard this robin before I saw him. He flew from the hedgerow (Extra 1) across the path in front of me. As I walked along the occasionally muddy path bemoaning how I never see anything, an elegant little egret flew across my path and over the river.
Calne was famous for its pig processing when Harris's was based there, and there are reminders everywhere including a pig relief (Extra 2) at Chaveywell in Castlefields Park that was once on top of a wall at the Harris Bacon and Pie Factory Slaughter House.
I checked again for the falcon on the church tower (it wasn't there), but I did nod hello to the actual Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen, as resplendant as any peregrine and never knowingly under-dressed, in full vocal flow as he and entourage swept up the steps on the path beside the church.
The bemasked and socially distanced queue outside the excellent Sam Widges was a reminder of these strange times (Extra 3).

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Vandellas - Miss Lonely Heart (track recorded 28 September 1965, Vandellas dubbed in 5 October 1965, Hitsville USA, Detroit MI)
I've been playing through the series A Cellarful Of Motown! recently and today it was Volume 4, which was released in 2010 and contained nothing that had ever been released before. This is correctly described as a "thumping mid 60's Detroit floorfiller - a time when Miss Martha and her Vandellas were truly at their best... it's hard to imagine why this one should have been left on the shelf." It would have been a must-play at the Twisted Wheel or Wigan Casino.
