St Futach's stone

An early medieval Cross slab in Inverallan Kirkyard. There is nolonger any trace of the kirk which was first mentioned in 1230 and was dedicated to St Futach, an Irish Saint. The cross slab and Pictish symbol stone set in the dyke were found in the ruins of the kirk in the 19th century.

There is a cross incised on both faces of the stone, only spotted one so hope to find the second tomorrow. The extra shows an early stone font from the kirk, now positioned in the shelter of a magnificent horse chestnut by the the Kirkyard gate.
