Baconsthorpe Castle

so called but is really an old baronial hall, built in the 15th century by the Heydon family seeking a residence that showed wealth and status. 

It is now in the care of English Heritage so that mere mortals such as myself can wander around at will taking photographs. Entry is allowed "at all reasonable hours" there being no custodians.
