Skype a scientist
Skype a Scientistis an organisation that connects scientists with classrooms around the world. During their Science lesson on Thursday, the Grade 6 students connected with Tessa Campbell, a research scientist at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden.
In Science class, the Grade 6 students are inquiring about microorganisms (viruses, bacteria and fungi), some of the diseases caused by microorganisms (yes, also Covid) and how our body defends itself against these microorganisms as part of the unit on Life.
Tessa Campbell's research focusses on how the human body fights the chickenpox virus, more specifically how natural killer cells in children born with defective immune systems fight this virus. So Tessa's research linked very well with the inquiry of our students and they had a lot of questions for Tessa.
