Rivendell...
………………..….Home of the Elves
The day started wet, progressed to soft misty rain, then high cloud and finally this evening, sunshine.
First visit today was to the Kaitoke Regional Park, north of Upper Hutt in the Wellington area of NZ.
There are numerous walks of varying distances, spacious camping and picnic grounds plus rivers and plenty of native bush. We loved our visit.
Our first walk was to the weir followed by the swingbridge track and finally a visit to Rivendell - the location used in the Lord of the Rings movie.
Information panels and a smaller model of the Arch are all that remain in this pretty site amongst native trees and beside the Pakuratahi River.
We couldn’t leave Upper Hutt tomorrow without visiting Tunnel Gully recreational area to see the historic Mangaroa Train Tunnel which is now part of a network of walking and cycling tracks. Long ago the tunnel was replaced by a more direct train route through the Remutaka Hills to the Waiarapa.
The main blip is a replica of the arch used in the movie. As an extra I have included a collage taken around Rivendell.
This is the third blip I have managed to upload today. Thank you for checking the previous two and for the stars and hearts. As always they are very much appreciated. I’m afraid it will be another couple of days before I get to your journals.
