University of Essex

This is where I've been on Tuesday nights. Very different from Cambridge, and the architecture a refreshing change to all the ancient colleges round here. I like the library on stilts and all the books lit up in a big box. In fact, I liked being at Essex a lot - they like psychoanalysis enough to have a whole dedicated department for it. The tutor was really good at his job - he was well prepared, knew his material, asked searching questions and did that really difficult thing of listening to someone who couldn't quite explain what they wanted to say and turning it into something coherent and valuable. The learners came from a variety of professions and ethnic backgrounds, and had interesting things to say.
