Lingfield, Surrey
I had to go to our local village today and decided to blip these gargoyles which are on the rooves of a small row of shops. I knew their history would be in the book Lingfield in Pictures which I now remember lending to someone who has yet to return it (don't you hate it when that happens?!).
Instead I'll give you some pretty useless facts and figures about lovely Lingfield, which means field of heather, and although not listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, it was shown on a map as early as 871AD.
It has a population of 3672 (1767 males, 1905 females) with 1548 households in the parish. It has 4 pubs, a village pond and lock up and the famous Lingfield Racecourse which now boasts an AWT, or all weather terrain track. Now, was any of that interesting?
