Birstwith Mill

The mill at Birstwith has been there since the mid 19th century. Today it is run by Kerry foods who describe themselves as a food products manufacturer.
The River Nidd used to provide water for the mill, and although sluice gates and a mill race still exist, the water wheel no longer turns.
A turbine was then installed to make use of the head of water provided by a nearby weir, although this was removed in 1970 and since then, the mill has been powered by electricity.
I have converted this to b&w for Mono Monday's theme of water.
There is a similar colour image taken from the same spot in the extras with the obligatory bike in the foreground ;)
