Magnesian limestone
I have been on a geology walk today. I started with the pink granite ( top left- a local church) and walked along Ryhope Road in Sunderland to view the magnesian limestone concretions (patterns) . This area was once a tropical sea (I know, hard to believe) and some of the patterns in the limestone are not seen anywhere else in the world. The rarest one is cannonball limestone. Near Seaburn (the Sunderland beach resort) the balls are the size of cannonballs but as you can see there were none that big here. Other patterns are cobwebs and feather. All the stone has been used in the walls of what used to be farms and private houses. I hope you are not too bored reading this it is a bit niche. Bottom right is gneiss.
