Early wild flowers.

This is Winter Heliotrope. Petasites fragrans.

It was introduced from North Africa as a garden plant in 1806. It is now common especially in the South and East of England. It can be very invasive spreading by means of underground stems. It is frequently found, as here, on roadside banks.
The flowers smell of vanilla.
Some of our floras say the flowers usually appear by Christmas so this is very early, especially for the North.
