Welcome...

... to building 16.

This is the entrance to the women's workshop, one of 58 buildings that made up the Medfield State Hospital, originally the Medfield Insane Asylum. Built at the end of the 19th century and finally closed in 2003, it was the first state mental hospital in Massachusetts to be built on the "cottage plan," with individual buildings to allow for better light and ventilation.

The site definitely has a bit of Shawshank Redemption about it. Now all boarded up, these grim looking buildings wait for the inevitable planning approval for demolition to make way for new housing.
