Rhubarb
The title is not the description of the great catch up I had with Elliot, my successor as National Convenor. Indeed, the opposite. After 9 months or so we managed a coffee together which stretched into nearly lunch.
Obviously, lots had been happening but it was more satisfying to hear about everyone, staff and volunteers, and how they have been working to ensure that Scotland’s most vulnerable children and young people can continue to get the support and help they need. As ever I remain amazed at the level of commitment the volunteers give to make the system function and to explore how improvements can be made. The staff and Board too!
As for everyone, it has been a disappointment this year to not be able to catch up with people. Roll on 2021.
The rhubarb reference is to the blip. Part of the excavations in preparation for the raised beds has meant shifting the rhubarb plants. These plants were well established when we moved into the house in 1988. I have split them in the past for friends as they produce lovely red stems and the main plants have previously survived. Whether this will be the case next year we will have to see. As the picture shows the main root was large and deep and broke off when moving the plants. Roll on 2021!
