Cushman Trestle

ten years ago my son johnny and i took pictures here on a friday afternoon at the cushman trestle as our good friend jason and four other friends began their weekend trek from the cushman trestle off of highway 126 to siltcoos station where we live.

jason is no longer with us, but his memory was strong as i took photos this afternoon at the same places i photographed the "railroad boys" on that sunny, hopeful afternoon long ago.

the central oregon pacific railroad has abandoned these tracks since then, but the port of coos bay is in the process of relinking the rail bed from coos bay to eugene serving the few remaining sawmills in between.

as the sign indicates, the trestle was built in 1914, a year after my mother was born.
