Ridging a thatch
G and I went for a long walk today skirting several villages in the Chinnock valley. In West Chinnock we found the thatch of this house being repaired. The thatcher has nearly replaced the ridge which should be renewed about every 10 to 15 years. This one is a "wrap over block ridge". Don't ask me any technical questions - I have found a really interesting site:
thatchinginfo.com which gives all the details and the different styles of thatch in this country.
The extra photos are of the 17th century pub in the village which was built originally as weavers' cottages and then made into a pub in about 1890.
