Black and White and Goldfinch

A whole flock of these little birds flew in between rainfalls, flitting and hopping everywhere until I tried to sneak out the back door with my camera. Then they took off in a whirr. I was completely taken by their striped backs--such a bold dramatic design. It reminds me of a jacket I made a long time ago, with a mini skirt to match, black and white stripes just like that.

The Extra gives you more of an idea of what the bird looked like. It's bouncing on the Mexican sage.

I'm not going blind--I know this is out of focus. I just wanted to show the feathers. Some days it feels like I've never picked up a camera before. I should have been able to do this properly, but, in my defense, those birds were pretty jumpy...

Thank you, Lois, for the ID!
