Whodunnit?
I am fond of puzzles - especially word puzzles - and this may be part of the ultimate puzzle.
I remember when Kit Williams published Masquerade and thinking how exciting it would be to solve the puzzle and find the Golden Hare. However, I couldn't find a copy of the book in the benighted new town where I grew up and I've still never read the book.
The Blip is page 74 of a book called Cain's Jawbone. It was written by Edward Powys Mathers in 1934. Mathers was also known as a setter of cryptic crossword puzzles in The Observer where he set under the pen-name Torquemada. The book is 100 pages long and as you can see, every page is numbered.
But.
The numbers mean nothing. We don't know what order the pages should be in. And we don't know whodunnit. The challenge is to get the page order correct and to solve the murders by correctly identifying the murderers and the victims. There is only one order of pages that will allow you to solve all the problems and even then you have to decode cryptic clues in order to identify everyone.
3 people have solved it since it was published. I doubt I will be number 4 but I will have a go. I suspect my lack of a classical education may be my downfall. That and the fact that I'm a bit of a thicky.
Other than that there's not much to report. I have a new keyboard after months of swearing at the old one. It is a joy to use. It is quiet and it has the right keys in the right place. Did you know that German layout is QWERTZ and not QWERTY? We don't don't use the the letter Y much here, Z though is much more common.
