college in the days of covid
This is what a day at art college looks like in 2020.
D is having a day’s tutorials with the rest of his class on Microsoft Teams (this afternoon it is Digital Imaging). The sketchbook stuff is what he prepared earlier, for a project about food and drink (his is about kombucha).
For three days a week, he occupies my study, which is the only place to access the internet using a mobile hotspot from his phone (no broadband here, and fibre connection got delayed by the pandemic).
He likes to sit on the floor rather than at a desk, so has set up his tablet on a pile of sofa cushions.
I feel sorry for those 16 year olds on his course who were looking forward to going to college. Hopefully one day in the not too distant future, they will be able to get a proper experience of art college.
