Coombe Hill Monument

This monument was originally erected in 1904, by public subscription, in memory of the 148 men of Buckinghamshire who gave their lives in the South Africa War 1899-1902 and it has featured quite heavily in my life really, not that I have any family associated with the South Africa War but I had family who lived and worked around the Chequers Estate nearby and it is always somewhere I loved to go as a Child and climb on the steps that surround it. It affords great views over the Vale of Aylesbury and Waddesdon Manor can be seen on a clear day!

It is still a place I like to go, but not a busy times, this evening it was quiet, chilly and a bit misty with a bright red setting sun, wonderful, I am very lucky to be able to visit these places so close to my home.
