That Beautiful River

Thirteen walkers set off from Stevenson Road and walked along the Clutha River to Reko’s Pt.  Despite the forecast there was no sign of rain.  The first extra is lunch by the river, and the second extra has a story behind it.  When we arrived at Reko’s Pt there was a female duck standing next to a cattle stop (grid) screeching her head off in obvious distress.  We looked into the grid and there were eight ducklings who had fallen through and couldn’t get out.  Walkers to the rescue!  The ducklings were frantic as a few of us tried to scoop them out and eventually succeeded in getting them all out.  The mother disappeared while this was happening but we like to think mother and ducklings would reunite when we had all disappeared.
