the coal miners worked on this spot from 1869-1880

it was one of 50 shafts in the Trefonen area

worth looking at in large

as early as the 16th century coal was extracted from the seams by surface workings but during the 18th & 19th century deeper mines hafts were sunk.

if you look in my blipfolio you see pictures of an old trolley, the gates to the mine shaft...and the beautiful area it is now.....

I find it very moving this is now a play area for children...and it is great to know they are getting acquainted with the history of the place they grow up in...

we are so fortunate to live in this wonderful area...
