Water Lane, you can see why it got its name...
Rain battered on the window and wind howled and buffeted around the house early this morning. It was still pouring when we got up.
Amazingly, it cleared up around 1.00pm with the sun shining out of a brilliant blue sky. A brief interlude which plenty of people took advantage of; there were loads of people out.
The impact of all the rain was evident around the village. The road under Bell Lane bridge had flooded. A section of road around the Green (extra) was similarly under the water. A stream bed which usually dry was a torrent and, as you can see, Water Lane lived up to its name.
Around at Mallards Lake the river Len had burst its banks, spilling onto the recreation ground, the adjacent floodplain and the roadway where it crosses the river. Families in wellingtons, and some not, were splashing through the waters on foot and bike.
The forecasters were right about a window of a couple of hours of dry weather. As we walked home clouds rolled in from the southwest and by the time we’d got our shoes off it was hammering down again.
