Little and large

We went out for a walk in two parts this morning, both combining to create something of a geography field trip. The first was on Shortheath Common in Oakhanger, where we tracked down another of the South Downs sculptures (and a 'floating' transition mire or quaking bog, from a distance). After a pleasant wander in the sunshine - in our wellies as it was VERY boggy everywhere - we went to Greatham on a research mission. Amusing, I was looking for a pond which, unbeknown to me, we already knew well from walking (and in my case) cycling round it for years...we just hadn't known its name until now! The pond is one of the largest ephemeral ponds in Europe, apparently, meaning it dries up during the summer months. Mind you, in the case of this one, it just reduces in size, rather than disappearing altogether.

Anyway, there's a herd of English Longhorn cattle there (more in Extras).
