Fireplace

To my surprise I discovered this fireplace at Gran's house. (no i still don't know if i will be able to afford to do the construction works and move in but, probably foolishly, i am cracking on with the small jobs that i can do). It was hidden behind a horrific 1960's gas fire. I have briefly investigated replacing with a gas fired balanced flue 'log burner' but sadly do not have the spare £3k that apparently it would cost. there is a flue but the chimney doesn't extend through the roof so I need a temporary plan. My lovely neighbour Abby found a rusty old fire grate (which fits perfectly) and which i have touched up with fire black. I have also done some patching up with Pollyfilla around the edges. sit tight for tomorrow's update......! (no, i can't stand the hearth, but too tricky to change right now)
